Sealegs anchors US Market with Boston Showroom

17 August 2011

AUCKLAND, August 2011 – Boat maker Sealegs, pioneer of the world’s first truly amphibious boat, has opened its first international showroom, at the Hingham Shipyard Marinas in Boston, USA.

Sealegs has been building a presence in the USA for about 12 months, to prove investment into a showroom was warranted.  So far, the install base in the USA is approaching 50, most of which are for New England.

David McKee Wright says “New England represents a huge opportunity for Sealegs and the opening of a direct sales office in Hingham is easily substantiated by the clusters of high net-wealth holiday homes in places such as Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Long Island and Cape Cod.

“These clusters are particularly relevant as they reside on tidal swept beaches and provide their owners direct access to the water, which suits the Sealegs recreational application perfectly.”

He went on to say, “If the Waiheke Island client base in excess of 40 craft is indicative of the potential in New England, Sealegs has a significant opportunity to look forward to.

“Waiheke Island has a population of approximately 7,500, and New England a population of 14.5M, Waiheke has a coastline of approximately 200kms and New England has one over ten times as large.

“Sealegs boats allow our customers to get into the water far quicker and with less hassle than traditional methods allow. This is a problem for boat lovers the world over, and we believe our products have true global appeal.”

The new Boston showroom is 2,000 square-feet and demonstrates the great skill and attention-to-detail that goes into each vessel.  Based on the waters edge, the Sealegs Hingham Showroom is located at 2 Essington Drive, Hingham, MA, USA. Showroom hours are Monday to Friday (10am - 5pm) or by appointment.

Sealegs has sold over 500 boats in 31 countries. As well as private use, they have been used by Indian anti-terrorism, Malaysian commando units, the Royal Thai Navy and New Zealand Coast Guard.
