Sealegs today announced it has taken possession of a second manufacturing facility to expand the production capability for its amphibious boats. The new 10,000sq ft facility in Albany is less than a kilometre from Sealegs current assembly plant. The new factory has been assigned the task of fabrication, which involves the cutting and welding of aluminium hulls and components, so the separation of the two factories will be beneficial.
Experienced staff for the new factory have been hired over the last six weeks taking total Sealegs staff to 41. The new fabrication staff have spent recent weeks training with existing suppliers to ensure best and consistent practices are used at the new premises.
Sealegs CEO David McKee Wright says “by complimenting existing fabricators with our own facility we will increase capacity, lower costs and improve on the time to develop new products and bring them to market. The increased capacity will not only ensure yet another high growth year in 2008 but it will ensure the growth is more profitable. Further to this, the time taken to develop a concept into a working prototype will be reduced.”
He added “the Intellectual Property of Sealegs remains a key asset and owning the processes around fabrication will help secure our market leading position. The opening of this new facility is another step towards being able to satisfy the global appetite for Sealegs amphibious boats”.
